McCain Foods (Canada) is currently seeking an Environmental Supervisor to join our team. This position will be responsible for leading and directing the facility's Environmental Program as well as the operation of our Wastewater Treatment facility at the Florenceville-Bristol, NB manufacturing location.

As the successful candidate, you willmanageand implement policies and programs as they relate to environmental compliance for McCain Foods. As well, you will effectively manage concerns arising from the daily operation of the waste treatment process. Key areas of focus will include workplace health and safety, team leadership, Environmental Management System ownership, efficient operation of equipment, maintenance planning,and employee relations. Under the direction of the Plant Engineer, you will support the plant strategy through the SQCDPE framework (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People and Environment) as we work towards continuous improvement throughout the facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Key owner and point person for ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
  • Ensure that McCain Foods Environmental Policy is communicated and followed
  • Ensure that all regulatory requirements are met
  • Maintain environmental communications
  • Develop, implement, and report the environmental objectives for the site
  • Develop and oversee environmental program continual improvement measures
  • Lead internal and external auditing activities
  • Environmental permit establishment and implementation
  • Develop environmental permit applications
  • Prepare and submit government and internal reports as required by provincial and federal regulations
  • Negotiate with regulatory agencies to derive permit conditions
  • Solicit consultant assistance and perform engineering studies as required
  • Submit public comments to draft permit provisions
  • Supervise Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations and other waste processes
  • Candidate shall demonstrate aptitude in wastewater treatment operations and troubleshooting; via education and/or practical experience.
  • Maximize biogas generation from the covered anaerobic lagoon system for eventual use in the boiler system
  • Operation and scheduling of mud removal system which is a waste stream from the potato receiving area of the process
  • Efficiently plan and carry out land application of waste lagoon material on an annual basis.
  • Monitor and maintain an offsite landfill area for disposal of rocks and mud.
  • Responsible for payment of government permits, contractors, chemicals, supplies, equipment and maintenance.
  • Daily general waste stream review and scheduling of removal for from the site, including peel, rocks, mud, refuse, scrap metal and frozen waste.
  • Proactively foster and promote the safe work habits, following proper safety policies and procedures of employees and contractors
  • Active participation in health & safety initiatives, taking a lead role in safety optimization and the drive towards zero incidents
  • General Supervision Duties
  • Ensure all HACCP guidelines, rules and regulations are being followed throughout their area of responsibility, including the proper completion of all required documentation
  • Performance management for hourly employees including performance appraisals, development, coaching and progressive discipline as required
  • Empower employees and drive continuous improvement through the support of Lean/Sigma principles
  • Prepare schedules, manage vacation planning, and other scheduling activities
  • Prepared and manage fiscal budget for operation, maintenance and capital planning for waste treatment system
  • Perform lab testing as appropriate, interpret findings, apply the results and adjust the process accordingly
  • Additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, or equivalent experience, as determined by the company
  • Wastewater Treatment certification.
  • Prior experience in supervision, process line operation, lab analysis.
  • Preference for experience in ISO certification standard. Computer Aptitude - computer use as well as an understanding of associated software (i.e SAP, Office)
  • Demonstrated experience leading, influencing, and training others
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to communicate with individuals across various organizational levels
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills
