POSITION OVERVIEW

The Analyst, BDC Capital Operations is an integral member of the Operations & Strategy team and provides unprecedented access to the portfolio of the most active VC/PE investor in Canada. This position entails supporting BDC Capital to provide strategic analysis, portfolio reporting as well as managing data and systems to achieve operational and strategic objectives.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

STRATEGIC ANALYSIS & REPORTING

  • Prepare detailed analysis for executives and Board of Directors, such as the quarterly Operations Review, BDC Capital Overview deck, and executive briefing notes

  • Produce ad-hoc or recurring analysis/decks to generate strategic insights on BDC Capital's portfolio and the state of Canada's VC & PE ecosystems by mining internal/external data sets

  • Assist in the development of key business metrics, benchmark indicators, and trending reports to monitor performance and support thought leadership

  • Participate in the annual 5-year corporate planning process by providing forecasts and analysis

  • Develop innovative research projects for publication, leveraging BDC's proprietary data sets

TRANSACTION SUPPORT

  • Back up the team on administration of investment files: authorizations, amendments, disbursements, capitalization tables

  • Support any required updates to BDC Capital policies, directives, procedures, and any responses to internal audit, business quality review

DATA & SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

  • Master BDC's portfolio monitoring tool iLEVEL system configuration to support data inputs (Excel templates, company data collection, interface from Framework back-office system) and outputs (reports/web portals/Excel plug-in) to ensure best use across BDC Capital

  • Update, monitor and reconcile master and transactional data in iLEVEL, Affinity CRM, and Framework (PE back-office software) to ensure system and data integrity

  • Problem-solve iLEVEL data issues such as determining optimal data item configuration, data hierarchies, cleaning up data populations, designing efficient Excel data templates / loader files - while making recommendations in the context of complex data structures (funds of funds, BDC internal funds, external funds, direct investments, fund underlying direct investments, limited partners) and a diverse set of investing teams with different requirements

  • Maintain iLEVEL and Affinity CRM user access and security permissions, including external users for iLEVEL data collection of financials and KPIs for BDC portfolio companies

  • Support other tools used at BDC Capital: BDC's Loan accounting system CLICS/PRM, Power BI

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor's degree in Administration, Commerce, or STEM

  • Professional designation completed or in progress: CFA, CPA or equivalent

  • 3-5 years in a financial institution, management consulting firm, investment firm or equivalent

  • Outstanding dynamism, curiosity, motivation, and able to work in rapidly changing environment

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Advanced financial and analytical skills

  • Comfortable communicating in English and French, written and spoken

  • Knowledge of VC & PE industry and tech ecosystem
