We're looking for a candidate to fill this position in an exciting company.


  • Develop and implement communication strategies for projects
  • Provide strategic communication and issues management advice as it relates to projects, developing and implementing plans and tactics where required
  • Translate complex concepts and materials into clear, concise and accurate briefing documents for a variety of audiences
  • Support the implementation of government, community, stakeholder, and regulatory engagement activities and initiatives
  • Work with project teams and port authority staff to ensure communications activities related to projects are aligned with other departmental and organizational objectives and initiatives
  • Implement media relations activities and recommend proactive media strategies including pitching news stories to the media, building strategic relationships with reporters to profile specific initiatives, and identifying opportunities for appropriate media coverage
  • Recommend and write a variety of communication tactics including press releases, videos, media advisories, key messages, social media content, background materials, question and answer documents, and speaking notes
  • Take and track calls from the media, assessing and recommending the appropriate responses
  • Analyze information, data and statistics regarding media requests, coverage and interviews

A university degree majoring in communications, public relations, or political science or another acceptable degree along with a minimum of four years of experience in public engagement and strategic communications in a communications environment. This person has a minimum of two years of experience developing and implementing public engagement and consultation strategies, or two years of direct media relations experience. Must have experience in strategic communications in support of complex infrastructure projects. Must have demonstrable experience and competency in best practice communication planning. Excellent writing, storytelling and editing skills, with knowledge of Canadian Press standards. Training and certification from the International Association for Public Participation is an asset.
