Job Summary:

Be committed to an empowerment and strengths-based model of service delivery and understand healthy family structures and Tsleil-Waututh history. Must have a good understanding of the impacts of colonization on First Nations' individuals, families and culture. Working in a team environment, the Family Program Coordinator will help develop and coordinate programs and services to meet the needs of Tsleil-Waututh families and individuals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work as an integral part of the Community Development team on strategic planning for programs and services that fit within the overall department and organizational work plans
  • Plan and coordinate activities for individuals and families
  • Document all program activities and report as needed
  • Coordinate and participate in team meetings and case conferencing as required
  • Coordinate workshops and training for community members and families
  • Work with Director and Social Worker to assist with coordination of engagement with MCFD and any designated Aboriginal agencies with regard to family matters
  • Have a strong understanding of programs and services that will support individuals and families in all areas including: Health, Wellness, Education, Income Assistance, Training & Employment, Justice, Housing and more
  • Provide individual and family support, advocacy and making referrals to link members to appropriate services to best meet their needs
  • Coordinating details for a variety of programming such as meals, set-up, bookings, forms, community notices, orientations, and arrangement of equipment and supplies and other details as needed to support the Community Development department in service and program delivery
  • Work as a part of the Community Development team to apply for grants and record activities and expenses, to ensure accountable reporting, following internal and external policies
  • Demonstrated commitment to strong team work and ongoing professional development in seminars, trainings, short courses etc. as directed by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years post-secondary education or demonstrated experience in program coordination, child and/or youth work, community support work, Aboriginal studies and/or cultural experience.
  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the impact of residential schools, the 60's scoop, and the overall impact of colonization on Aboriginal communities.
  • Experience with group facilitation, training, workshop delivery and coordination is an asset
  • Understand the dynamics related to working with individuals and families who have experienced or witnessed abuse, addiction, violence, etc.
  • Criminal record check (mandatory)
  • First Aid Certificate (asset)
  • Class 5 Driver's License and vehicle (mandatory)
  • Class 4 Driver's License (asset)

  • Work collaboratively with clients, families, and other staff and resources
