Purpose of Job:
- The Advanced CNC Machinist is a senior skill level position responsible for continuous improvement, initial program determination of prototype parts and set up. Advanced CNC Machinists are competent in independently setting up, running and completing work as required.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Focus on continuous improvement activities for CNC machines to maximize production efficiency.
- Operate CNC lathes, mills, other machining centres and hand tools with care and proficiency.
- Accurately report job specific details using written or application-based formats.
- Set-up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision machining operation i.e. drilling, milling, etc
- Advanced knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments (calipers, ID and OD micrometres, depth gages, and indicators).
- Advanced knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines.
- Responsible for initial program determination for prototype parts.
- Program new tool parameters in to the Zoller or similar.
- As directed write/modify programs for increased efficiency, interpret customer drawings to make final product.
- Make program adjustments to meet part specifications.
- Analyze and select speeds, feeds and cutting tools for programs.
- Create Work Instructions and Narrative content for CNC operation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Proper use of required PPE while in plant.
- Maintain cleanliness of work station.
- Work safely & ergonomically by following H&S policies.
- Report any unsafe acts, conditions or accidents across the plant.
- Report accidents, near misses, injuries, or illnesses immediately to your supervisor.
- Inspect equipment and the workplace regularly.
- Be alert for hazards.
Knowledge, Skills and Education:
- English fluency (read, write and verbal).
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written forms.
- Ability to take and give direction.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Comfortable with the use of technology (iPads, workstations, etc.)
- Trade school diploma in relevant program.
- Fifteen (15) or more years in trade or equivalent demonstrated competency (milling and CNC machining).
- High level of manual dexterity, and hand-eye co-ordination, ability to work on your feet for entire shift.
- Proficient at reading and comprehending text and numeracy;
- Advanced understanding of metrology (use of MMDs, GD&T, etc.)
- Good problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, job task planning, and organizing ability.
- Competent working from customer drawings to make final product. Experienced and capable with Solid Works.
- Advanced programming knowledge (Fanuc controls experience preferred)
- Knowledgeable in G and M coding and Macro style programming, Vericut experience considered an asset.
- Experienced with carbon steel, stainless, aluminium, ductile iron machining.
- Experience with tool selection and experimentation considered an asset.
