Job Description:

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Canada is seeking a full-time employee as Junior Structural Engineer with 1 to 3 years of experience, preferably in Ports & Marine structures.

Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct site visits / inspections,
  • Prepare field inspections reports,
  • Prepare drawings of field sketches using AutoCAD.
  • Collect and analyze data under the supervision of an experienced engineer,
  • Conduct due diligence for multiple projects prior to field work.
  • Build analytic and design skills,
  • Use computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems,
  • Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer,
  • Read and interpret structural and architectural drawings, specifications, and design requirements related to industrial and commercial applications.
  • Perform s work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.


Skills / Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in structural or civil engineering,
  • Registration as an Engineer-in-Training with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
  • A minimum of 1 year of full-time engineering work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber design,
  • Basic knowledge of design/building codes such as the National Building Code of Canada, CSA Design Codes,
  • Basic knowledge of structural analysis software including STAAD Pro, SAP 2000 and technical software tools such as MathCAD,
  • Basic proficiency with AutoCAD,
  • Proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to learn and grow in the Ports & Marine engineering field.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Work experience in Ports & Marine Structures is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of design/building codes such as the National Building Code of Canada, CSA 23, S6, S16, AISC Manual of Steel Construction, ACI 318, International Building Code, and ASCE 7
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and CADD 3D modeling
  • Master's degree in structural or civil engineering is preferred.
